MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State golf teams enjoyed a hugely successful home tournament hosted at Beowulf Golf Club, as the Beaver men's and women's teams each finished second, led by runner-up champion finishes for both
Kasen Rostad and
Emily Watts.
The first home tournament hosted by Minot State in the program's NCAA era saw the Minot State men battle in-state rival Mary, finishing two strokes back of the Marauders for the team title.
As for Rostad, he played his way into a three-way playoff with eventual champion Porter Seidel, from Jamestown, and Mary's Payton Hiller. All three shot 1-under 141s for the two-day tournament.
Rostad finished one stroke off the title in the single-hole playoff on the par-4, 399-yard 9
th hole.
"I'm happy with how I hit the ball today," Rostad said. "Under pressure, I felt like for the most part I was up to the task. I just couldn't get a putt to fall.
"Then, the playoffs, obviously, you know, a little disappointing, but tip the cap to the guy that got it done. Good for him."
While Seidel brought home the individual win for the Jimmies, Mary claimed the men's team title with a 12-over 580, two shots better than Minot State at 14-over 582 (300-282). Tuesday's 282 was an NCAA-era single-round team low.
The Beavers got two more top-10 finishes to fuel their charge as
Max Palmer tied for 4
th at 1-over 143 (75-68), matching his career low with a 68 on Tuesday, and
Quinn Shillingstad tied for 10

Porter Barnett was next for the Minot State men, finishing 13

On the ladies' side, Watts led Minot State with a 13-over 155 (79-76), one shot behind individual champion Kacie Rexin from Jamestown. The Jimmies claimed the team title with a 79-over 647, while the Beaver women finished second at 121-over 689 (341-348).
"It was a great day out here at Beowulf," Watts said. "Weather was a lot easier than yesterday; there wasn't much wind until the back nine.
"I played pretty well on the front nine, I shot 2-under; I struggled a bit on the back nine, but that's Beowulf, you get bad breaks sometimes. But, overall, I had a great experience here at my home course."
While Watts and the Beavers each finished second, Minot State also got a top-10 finish from
Macie Sebelius to help power their performance as she shot 33-over 175 (89-86), matching her career-low with Tuesday's 86.
Micaela Resler was next for Minot State, finishing 15
th at 40-over 182 (88-94), and
Carlie Brown was 19

Minot State's third team in action, the men's "B" team, finished 5

Michael Felchle, who was 19
th at 14-over 156 (79-77).
Fischer Johnson was next in 27

The Minot State men's and women's golf teams now play one more event to wrap up their fall season schedule, heading to the USF Fall Invitational hosted by Sioux Falls at the Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa, next Monday and Tuesday.
