MINOT, ND --The Minot State women's basketball team rallied from a 55-51 deficit after the third quarter to knock off the Bemidji State Beavers 77-69 at home Thursday.
The Beavers (10-14, 7-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Jessica Mogen, who had 18 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Taryn Hamling tacked on 15 points and Maya Aguilar chipped in as well with 13 points and six rebounds.
Minot State pulled down 41 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to Bemidji State's 35, led by Mogen's nine boards.
Minot State's defense held Bemidji State to only 38.8 percent shooting from the field. The Beavers did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with nine offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while Minot State cleared 33 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-4, Minot State went on an 8-0 run with 5:04 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Maya Vibeto, to narrow its deficit to 14-12. Bemidji State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Beavers down 21-17 entering the second quarter.
Bemidji State kept adding to that lead, building a 24-17 advantage before Minot State went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Lara Dobbins, to narrow its deficit to 24-23. Bemidji State responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Beavers trailing 36-31 heading into halftime.
Minot State started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 55-51 by the end of the third quarter. Minot State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 20 points in the paint.
Minot State narrowed its deficit to 65-64 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Tiyahna Trottier's three, to seize a 73-65 lead with 1:15 to go in the contest. The Beavers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 77-69 win. Minot State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 26 points in the paint.
