MARSHALL, Minn. – Minot State's men's wrestling team wrapped up its season with a pair of grapplers earning medals at the NCAA Super Region V Tournament hosted by Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.
Freshman
Cole Faircloth claimed victory in the 5
th-place match in the 133-pound weight class, while sophomore
Gavin Turk earned 6
th place in the 174-pound weight class, leading the way for the Beavers.
After an opening setback, Faircloth battled his way to the podium with three consolation bracket wins, beating Upper Iowa's Dawson Schmit by a 4-2 decision, besting Sioux Falls' Bray Skinner by a 13-8 decision, then after a consolation semifinal loss, he pinned Teagan Block from Northern State in 4 minutes, 27 seconds in the 5
th-place match.
As for Turk, who also lost in his opener, he earned a 9-5 decision win over Joey Mushinsky from Mary to advance to the consolation semifinals before settling for 6
th place with back-to-back setbacks.
Braxton Rance added a win by pin in 5:26 over Evan Thompson from Southwest Minnesota State in their opening-round match at 285 pounds, and
Shafer Ehmke earned a 13-5 major decision win over Emery Slater from Mary in a 197-pound consolation bracket match for the Beavers' other victories on the mat at the tournament.
