FARGO, N.D. – Once again, Minot State's two-sport star student-athlete,
Brayan Augustin, led the way for the Beaver track and field team.
Augustin, a sophomore jumper for the men's track and field team and a defensive back for the football team, broke the NCAA Division II-era school record in the long jump Sunday, finishing 3
rd in the event at the North Dakota State Spring Classic outdoor meet.
During the indoor season, Augustin broke the NCAA D-II school record in the long jump, as well, with a mark of 22 feet, 8 inches at the NSIC Indoor Championships.
Sunday, his leap of 23 feet even was a career best that ranks 7
th all-time at Minot State, and is 8
th-best this spring in the NSIC.
While Augustin led the way for the Minot State men, freshman
Kyra Beckman led the way for the Beaver women as she finished 5
th in the women's high jump, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch, which ranks No. 2 in Minot State's NCAA era and No. 3 all-time.
Those were two of the top marks for Minot State, which returned to action for its second outdoor meet of the season. The Beavers next head to California for a series of meets in Southern California on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Sunday in Fargo, the Beavers claimed nine top-10 finishes, led by Augustin and Beckman.
Adding top-10 finishes on the men's side were
Justin Williams, who finished 6th in the 200 meters in 21.99 seconds,
Peyton Tuhy, who was also 6th in the men's 1,500 meters in 1 minute, 54.44 seconds, which ranks 3rd in the NSIC, and
Holter Bridwell, who was 9
th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:05.90, which ranks him 8th currently in the NSIC.
On the women's side,
Bailey Wride finished 4th in the 800 meters in 2:15.92, which ranks her 5th in the NSIC, while
Nicole Reeves was 10
th in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:50.47, and
Jamie Ward was 10th in the discus with a throw of 129-4.
