MINOT, N.D. – The hard work of recruiting never ends, as Minot State men's hockey coach
Wyatt Waselenchuk has been busy this spring bringing in talented newcomers to bolster the Beavers' roster.
The latest addition is a prolific offensive weapon with two seasons of collegiate experience in Canada under his belt, as Coach Waselenchuk is pleased to announce the signing of Trentyn Crane, who joins the Beavers as a junior on the ice in the fall of 2026.
"Trentyn is an incredibly dynamic forward who will certainly add to our offensive prowess," Minot State's coach said. "His resume speaks for itself – he has major junior experience; he was the captain of Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge, and led a top team on some very deep playoff runs out in Summerside."
Crane was captain for the Canada East U19 team during the 2022-23 World Junior A Challenge, playing in 6 games where he scored a goal and had two assists for Canada East, which advanced to the bronze-medal game.
"I'd like to thank my family and friends, first and foremost, for all the support along the way," Crane said. "I am incredibly thankful for a new opportunity and a fresh start at Minot State, and to join a hockey program with so much success throughout the years. I was blown away by the rink, the campus, and the overall support that the program gets. I can't wait to get there in the fall and get on the ice with my new teammates."
Along with his international experience, the 5-foot-10, 183-pound forward from Winkler, Manitoba, skated for three seasons with the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MJAHL), skating in 114 regular-season games and 42 playoff contests, scoring 71 goals and assisting on 148 others. He was an assistant captain for the Capitals his final season (2023-24).
Crane also skated for the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) before his time with the Capitals.
The new Beaver started his collegiate career playing for the Lakehead University Thunderwolves of the Ontario University Athletics conference, and over the last two seasons he had 1 goal and 4 assists in 21 games.
"He's got a lot to prove after a tough past couple of seasons, and I know that fire he has will propel us in a big way," Waselenchuk added of Crane's start to his collegiate career. "Above all else, he wants to win. He has a proven track record of doing just that as a captain and a leader, and we could not be more excited that he has chosen to further his education and hockey career here with us at MSU.
"We are very excited to welcome Trent and his family to Minot State!"
