Minot State’s Cowen Meyer named NSIC Player of the Week

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State shortstop Cowen Meyer went on a tear last week that epitomized the Beaver baseball team's late-season charge.

Leading Minot State's offense as he went 8-for-13 at the plate, Meyer was named NSIC Baseball Player of the Week on Monday as the Beavers concluded an 8-game win streak that propelled Minot State into the NSIC Playoffs.

The Beavers (2-6-23 overall, 20-18 NSIC) open the NSIC Tournament at 6 p.m. on Wednesday against Minnesota State in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Starting four of the Beavers' five games on the week, the junior transfer from Sierra College and Auburn, California, product hit .613 with multiple hits in a doubleheader sweep at Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, then added three more hits in a doubleheader sweep at home Friday against Sioux Falls.

Two of those hits over the past week were for extra bases, a double and a home run, as Meyer added 4 RBIs and scored 4 runs for the Beavers.  He also walked three times, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base.

Defensively, he added 8 assists and 4 putouts at shortstop, without an error, which included 1 assist as a late-game defensive replacement Saturday on Senior Day, coming off the bench in Minot State's lone loss in the last 9 games.
