Minot State women’s track team adds 5 recruits for upcoming season

MINOT, N.D. – While the first meet of the year might be a few months away, the Minot State women's track and field team is gearing up for a big season with the addition of five new recruits to bolster the Beavers roster in a variety of events.

The Beavers' 2nd-year head coach Erik Stevens is pleased to introduce the newest members of Minot State's team: High jumper Keeley Call from Williston, North Dakota, thrower Nahla Mickle from Reno, Nevada, sprinter and hurdler Olivia Tweddle from York, England, and pole vaulters Maddy Lamberth from Bismarck, North Dakota, and Alyssa Hoyles from Drayton, North Dakota. Hoyles will also throw the javelin.

A transfer from York College in England, where she spent last season competing after finishing her high school career at Outwood Academy Easingwold, Tweddle joins the Beavers ready to race in the 400 meters, along with 100- and 400-meter hurdles.

The Yorkshire champion in the 300 and 400 hurdles, Tweddle clocked personal-best times of 1 minute, 1.2 seconds in the 400 meters and 1:06.23 in the 400 hurdles. She is also a 2-time English school combined events finalist.

Tweddle also ran cross county and played soccer in high school.

"The energy that Olivia brings to the team is great," Stevens said. "I could tell that she has a strong level of desire and dedication from the first phone call that we had. I'm very happy that she decided to step outside her comfort zone and come all the way from the UK to be a part of this program."

Also traveling to North Dakota, but not from as far away as England, is incoming freshman thrower, Mickle, from North Valleys High School in Reno, Nevada.

A two-time runner-up NIAA 5A state champion in the shot put, she has career-best marks of 39 feet, 4.5 inches in the shot and 110-11 in the discus this past season, earning 6th-place honors at the NIAA Northern 5A Region Championship.

She also played basketball and volleyball at North Valleys HS, and away from competition, Mickle earned the Across the Board and the Collegiate Academy honors, was the Black Student Union President, and a Student Body Officer at North Valleys.

Mickle plans to major in Secondary English Education at Minot State.

"Power; Poise; Confidence: I truly believe that Nahla brings all of these attributes to the ring," Stevens said. "From the first conversation that I had with her, I knew that we needed her to be a part of what we are building here."

Joining the Beavers from just down the road at Williston High School is Call, who was 6th at the Class A state meet in the high jump and set a personal-best mark of 5 feet, 3 inches as a junior in high school.

Call, who is a member of the National Honor Society and was on the 3.5-and-above Honor Roll, plans to major in Nursing at Minot State.

"Keeley is an experienced competitor in the high jump, and I truly believe we will see a lot of things develop for her in year one," Stevens said. "I am excited to work with her and help her realize how high her ceiling is."

Also looking to push the ceiling are a pair of pole vaulters in Lamberth from Legacy High School in Bismarck, and Hoyles from Drayton Public School.

A 4-time Class A state qualifier in the pole vault, Lamberth cleared a personal-best height of 10 feet, 3 inches during her indoor season as a junior.

Also a gymnast, Lamberth plans to major in Elementary Education at Minot State.

"Maddy brings a great level of competitive experience and a quiet confidence to the program," Stevens said. "I am excited to have her with us to relaunch our vault program this year."

Joining her is Hoyles, who was runner-up state champion this past spring in the pole vault, clearing through 10 feet, 6 inches without a miss at state, a personal best for her. She also was 5th in the javelin at state with a personal-best throw of 121 feet, 2 inches.

Hoyles was named Drayton's Most Valuable Field Performer in 2024, 2025, and 2026, Most Valuable Track Performer in 2026, and earned the Titan Award in 2026.

A multi-sport student-athlete at Drayton Public School, Hoyles played volleyball and basketball for the Bombers and was runner-up state champion in girls wrestling. Along with competing in track and field, she will also wrestle for the Beaver women's wrestling team this season.

Valedictorian at Drayton Public School, Hoyles was also on the Honor Roll every term and was president of the National Honor Society. She plans to major in Business and Graphic Design.

"Alyssa is going to be a great addition to the roster," Stevens said. "She is a dual-sport athlete for MSU, and I feel she is going to develop very well as a vaulter within our program."
