THIS WEEK: Minot State gets back into Dakota Athletic Conference play as the Beavers plays host to Dakota State (Friday, 5:30 p.m.) and Mayville State (Saturday, 4 p.m.) in the DAC home opener.
RECORDS: MSU is 10-3 overall and 1-1 in Dakota Athletic Conference play. DaSU is 4-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while MaSU comes into the weekend at 2-8 and 1-0.
COACHES CORNER: Minot State's
Sheila Green Gerding is in her 16th season at the helm of the Beavers. She has a record of 277 wins, 179 losses at Minot State and overall. Dakota State's Joe Reints is in his third season with the Trojans and has a 22-47 record at the school and a 91-80 overall record. Dennis Hutter is 57-97 in five seasons with the Comets and overall.

RANKINGS: MSU is ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll conducted Dec. 13. DaSU and MaSU are not ranked.
RECENT HISTORY: The Beavers split two games at the Warner Pacific Holiday Inn Express Tournament in Lake Wales, Fla., Dec. 28 and 29. MSU fell to Dordt College 71-67 in overtime in the first game, but rebounded for a 57-41 win over Emmanuel College. The Trojans lost to Dakota Wesleyan 70-52 on the road Monday. The Comets were edged by Holy Names University 79-70 Dec. 31.
OVERALL SERIES: The Beavers are 8-15 against Dakota State overall and snapped a seven-game losing streak to Dakota State in 2009, turning it into a four-game winning streak. Minot's six-game winning streak over Mayville has helped the Beavers to a 39-32 overall lead in the series.
NOTING THE TROJANS: Dakota State has struggled at times to score points in 2010-11 as leading scorer Katie Bourk is just barely averaging over 10 points per game, hitting 10.1 ppg., on the season. In the Trojans past seven games, DaSU has failed to score 60 points in four games (three of them losses) and hasn't scored 80 points since a 90-37 win over Trinity Bible College Nov. 19… DaSU has been tough to score on from beyond the arc, giving up just a 25.5 percent average on 3-pointers this season… Bourk has hit an average of 2.25 3-pointers per game to lead the team and help the Trojans to a 8.25 average 3-pointers per game, good for 14th in NAIA Division II.
NOTING THE COMETS: Mayville State's Hailey Longtin leads the country in 3-pointers made per game, knocking down 3.79 3s per game, making 41 percent of her 3-pointers... The Comets have lost three straight after winning two in a row, including a 77-67 win over DAC rival and travel partner Dakota State at home Dec. 3… MaSU has been opportunistic on defense, averaging 10.7 steals per game, led by Kira DeMorales, who ranks ninth in NAIA Division II in swipes with 3.3 per outing… Eli Cosme-Gonzalez is one of the top scorers in the conference, hitting for 19.3 points per game.
FOLVY WATCH CONTINUES: It's down to fewer than 100 points and 100 rebounds for
Caroline Folven's push for 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Folven, the Beavers leading scorer at 13.4 points per game, has 944 points and 427 rebounds in her four-year career. She is averaging a career best in both categories as she is averaging 5.6 rebounds to go along with her points-per-game average.
SPINNING RECORDS: Minot State is on pace to break a number of team records through 13 games on the season. The Beavers currently have better marks in 3-point field goal percentage (37.6 vs. 36.7 in 2006-07), free throw percentage (74.7 vs. 72.3 in 2006-07) and rebounds per game (41.2 vs. 39.7 in 1986-87) and are just below the team's record in scoring average (74.15 vs. 74.4 in 1997-98).
POST MUSCLE: The foursome of
Caroline Folven,
Carly Boag,
Katie Hardy and
Christina Boag have been difficult to contend with this season. The four are averaging 36.6 points per game and 17.1 rebounds per game, while hitting 50.7 percent of their shots from the floor.
