MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State women's basketball team enters the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament this week following a split final week of the regular season that featured a road win and a Senior Night setback.
The Beavers closed the regular season with an 11-18 overall record and an 8-14 mark in NSIC play after defeating Jamestown on Thursday before falling to Northern State at home on Saturday.
Minot State opened the week with an 83-72 road victory at Jamestown behind a dominant offensive performance from Tiyahna Trottier and Taryn Hamling. Trottier poured in 26 points with four assists and two blocks, while Hamling added 22 points and six rebounds and Maya Aguilar chipped in 16. The Beavers never trailed after the first quarter, knocking down 13 three-pointers and assisting on 16 of 26 made field goals while forcing 19 turnovers in the win.
Saturday's Senior Night contest saw Minot State fall 72-63 to Northern State despite leading at halftime. Jessica Mogen led the Beavers with 19 points, while Hamling contributed 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Minot State built a 25-11 first-quarter lead and carried a 36-31 edge into the break, but the Wolves used a strong second half to pull away. The Beavers continued to find success inside, scoring the majority of their first-half points in the paint.
This week, Minot State begins postseason play in the NSIC Tournament. The Beavers will travel to face Winona State in the opening round on Wednesday, February 26, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. as conference tournament action gets underway.
