Boags power Beavers

Carly and Christina Boag combine for 40 points, 20 rebounds in win

Box Score
HAVRE, Mont. – Minot State University's twin post powers showed up for the Beavers.

MSU's Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) and twin sister Christina Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) combined for 40 points to give the Beavers a 52-47 win over Carroll College at the Duck Inn Montana State-Northern Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday at the Armory Gymnasium.

Carly Boag finished with a double-double, hitting for game-high 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Christina Boag just missed a double-double as she scored 13 points and added nine rebounds.

The game was anything but pretty for the Beavers as they struggled to make shots in the second half. MSU finished going 22 of 53 in the game from the floor and held Carroll College to just 37 percent, but the Beavers did much of that damage in the first half. MSU hit 16 of its 22 field goals in the first half, going just 6 for 25 in the second.

MSU (7-5 overall) got off to a great start, leading 28-13 in the first half. The Beavers defense continued to stifle the Saints much of the half, limiting CC to just nine field goals and 33.3 percent shooting. Carly Boag scored 18 of her 23 points in the first half.

But Carroll College hung around all second half, cutting the lead to just six a couple of times in the second half. The Saints got it to 35-29 with just over 11 minutes to play, but the Beavers countered with a huge 3-pointer – the team's only triple of the game – by Morgan Klose (Fr., G, Fairview, N.D.) on a feed from Carly Boag and a Lanise Lindsey (Jr., F, Inglewood, Calif.) free throw after an offensive rebound to get it back to nine.

Jeni Guertin led Carroll with 14 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks. She was the only Saints player in double figures. Jackie Mee added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

Along with the points, Christina Boag finished with four steals, four blocks and two assists, while Carly Boag had four steals and two blocks. Klose finished with five points and six rebounds, while Sacarra Molina (Jr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) added four points, four assists and three rebounds for the Beavers.

MSU continues play at the Duck Inn MSU-Northern Tournament Friday with an 8 p.m. (MT) game against the University of Great Falls (Mont.).
