THIS WEEK
: Minot State University travels to Moorhead, Minn., for a matchup with future Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Minnesota State Moorhead with tip off set for 6 p.m.

TRADITION IN TRANSITION: Minot State is in its third season of a four-year transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. MSU advanced to Year Three Provisional status in July and is expected to complete the transition in July 2012. Minot State was selected to join the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2012-13.

RECORDS: MSU is 5-4 overall and does not have a conference record due to the school's independent status. MSUM is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play.

COACHES CORNER: Minot State's Sheila Green Gerding enters her 17th season as head coach of the Beavers. She is just seven wins shy of 300 for her career, sporting a lofty 296-188. Karla Nelson is Moorhead's winningest coach on staff as she carries a 197-126 record in her 12th season.

FOLLOW THE BEAVERS: The game is broadcast locally on KCJB 910-AM with Scott Kittell calling the play-by-play. Live audio can be accessed online at (www.kcjb.com). MSU provides live stats as well as links to live audio and a MSU photo gallery all at (www.msubeavers.com).

RANKINGS:  Neither MSU or Moorhead was ranked in the latest edition of the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Poll.

RECENT HISTORY: Minot State toppled Montana Tech 67-50 at the MSU Dome Nov. 28 to win its third game in a row. MSU Moorhead split a pair of Northern Sun games last week, losing its conference opener 75-68 to Bemidji State before rebounding for a 63-61 over Minnesota Duluth.

OVERALL SERIES: The Beavers haven't played Moorhead in a game that has counted on MSU's schedule since 1999. Overall, MSU-M leads the series 9-2.

NOTING THE DRAGONS: Minnesota State Moorhead played twice in Montana in the MSU Billings Holiday Classic along with Minot State, going 1-1 in the tournament. The Dragons lost to Montana State Northern 65-61 on Friday but defeated host Billings 78-71 Saturday… Through five games, Moorhead has scored in the 70s just once, hitting for 78 against MSU-B. In the other four games, the Dragons have scored no fewer than 61 and no more than 68… Three players are averaging double figures for MSUM, with Angie Jetvig leading the way with a 16.6 points per game average. In fact, Jetvig, Megan Strese (11.6 ppg.) and Morgan Zabel (10.0 ppg.) have combined to average 38.2 of the Dragons 67.2 scoring average… Nine different players have made a least one 3-pointer on the year for MSUM with Kaycee Charette's six leading the way.

NEARLY PERFECT: MSU sophomore Katie Hardy (F, Fairview, N.D.) has missed just two free throws the entire season, going 14 for 16 from the line. Incidentally, the two misses came on the same double bonus against Montana Tech (11/28). In two seasons, Hardy has hit 58 of 70 free throws good for an 82.8 percent clip.

CHASING 300: Minot State University women's coach Sheila Green Gerding is just seven wins shy of 300 for her career. Green Gerding has averaged 20 wins a season over the past five years and has reached 20 wins in a season five times in her career at Minot State. Green Gerding is on pace to earn her 300th win at her alma mater Montana State Northern as the Beavers are scheduled to play three games in Havre, Mont., next weekend. Green Gerding earned her 200th win against the Skylights.

CHASING 500: While Green Gerding is chasing a milestone, the Beavers women's basketball program has its sights set on a number as well. The Beavers are just five wins shy of winning their 500th game. MSU is 495-455 overall.

NOT EVEN KLOSE: Minot State freshman guard Morgan Klose (Fairview, N.D.) leads the team with 12 3-pointers this season. She has double the next closest teammate Lauren Safranski (Jr., G, Burnsville, Minn.), who has six so far. Klose has hit just eight fewer 3-pointers than the rest of the team combined and has taken just 27 fewer than the rest of the team.

DOUBLE VISION: Minot State's near .500 record would indicate some parity in how the season has gone. The overall team statistics are equally similar. Through nine games, MSU has scored 569 points and given up just 596. The Beavers have 86 steals, while their opponents have 88. MSU has committed 185 turnovers with the competition at 178 and the Beavers have 27 blocks compared to 32.

PAINT PRESENCE: Minot State duo of Christina Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) and twin sister Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) have been a dominate offensive force for MSU since their arrival on campus last season. This year is no different as Carly leads the team in scoring at 14.9 per game and Christina is the team's third leading scorer at 9.4. But the two have also been an imposing force on defense as well. Christina leads the team with 11 blocked shots through nine games, while Carly has 10. The two combined for 38 blocks last season.
