Beavers blow out Black Hills

Minot State holds Yellow Jackets to just five first-half field goals

Box Score MINOT, N.D. – Another night, another milestone.

Minot State University held Black Hills State to just 16 total field goals and shot 52.5 from the floor to earn the 500th win in the program's history, topping the Yellow Jackets 83-47 in nonconference NCAA Division II women's basketball Saturday at the MSU Dome.
It marked the second milestone in as many nights for the Beavers as MSU notched head coach Sheila Green Gerding's 300th career win Friday.

MSU (10-7 overall)  broke things open early as the Beavers raced to a 52-18 lead at halftime, holding BHSU (4-7) to just five first-half field goals. MSU never trailed in the game and led 9-0 to start the game.

The Beavers smothered Black Hills much of the night, forcing 30 turnovers with 19 steals.

It was Minot State's third straight win overall and the fifth win in a row at home. MSU has also won all four games this season against former Dakota Athletic Conference teams.

Cassidy Kotelman was the lone BHSU player in double figures with 12 points. She added a team-high six rebounds as well in the loss.

Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) scored a game-high 23 points and added four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Katie Hardy (So., F, Fairview, N.D.) hit 7 of 9 shots from the floor on her way to 16 points. Lauren Safranski (Jr., G, Burnsville, Minn.) and Morgan Klose (Fr., G, Fairview, N.D.) each scored 10. Christina Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) finished with a team-high nine rebounds to go along with eight points in the win.

Minot State travels to Aberdeen, S.D., for a single game this week as the Beavers take on Northern State in a nonconference game against a future Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday.
