RETURN TO THE MAT, YEAR 3: Minot State reinstated wrestling in the 2010-11 season after 20 years of not sponsoring it as a varsity sport. The Beavers wrestled the 2010-11 season as a member of the NAIA, participating in the 2011 NAIA National Championship. In 2011-12, the Beavers were a NCAA Division II Independent and wrestled in the NWCA National Championship. Now, in year 3, the Beavers are a full member of DII and a proud member of one of the toughest wrestling conference in the country, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

BARTZ IS BACK: Minot State sophomore Bobby Bartz (So., HWT, Harvey, N.D.) has returned to the mat and has picked up right where he left off in 2010-11. Bartz was the hero in the Beavers first match since the 1990 against the University of Mary in 2010, earning a win in the final bout to secure the 24-18 dual win. Bartz, who is a member of the Minot State football team, hadn't wrestled since his senior year in high school before the dramatic win. Fast forward two years later and another year off from wrestling and Bartz is back in a full-time capacity, going 2-1 in two events including a pin.

DOUBLE WILSON TROUBLE: After a season in which sophomore Jon Wilson (So., 157, Colorado Springs, Colo.) redshirted, the Wilson brothers, Jon and Marcus Wilson (Sr., 149, Colorado Springs, Colo.) are back on the mat together. The brothers wrestled together in the Beavers first season back to collegiate wrestling in 2010-11 and Marcus wrestled in 2011-12. The two are a combined 2-10 on the season, but have earned nine team points and a pin (Jon).

FAST OUT OF THE GATE: MISU junior Matt Fetterley (Jr., 174, Muskegon, Mich.) has placed in all three tournaments the Beavers have traveled to this season, including a third-place showing at the North Dakota State Bison Open in the first week of the season. Fetterley, who redshirted last season, is 7-5 overall with a team-leading three pins. He also has a major decision so far this season and has scored six points, tied for tops on the team.

KNOCKING PINS DOWN: In Minot State's first dual of the season, the Beavers registered five pins in nine matches wrestled to easily defeat the University of Regina at the MSU Dome. The Beavers got pins from Cody Carpenter (Jr., 141, Muskegon, Mich.), Jon Wilson (So., 157, Colorado Springs, Colo.), Matt Fetterley, Cody George (Sr., 184, Great Falls, Mont.) and Bobby Bartz in the win.

WEPPLER MOVES ON: Minot State University senior Wade Weppler has decided to hang up the singlet as a collegiate wrestler due to an injury, but has also decided to stay with the team as an assistant coach. Weppler, who qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in his first season with the Beavers in 2010-11, will work with media relations including video, social media and statistics for the 2012-13 Beavers.

REDSHIRTS PAYING OFF: Minot State redshirted six current wrestlers last season during its independent NCAA Division II season and the move has paid off so far for MISU. The six have seven of the team's nine wins by fall and three of the four major decisions so far. The group also has combined to go 14-24 so far this season overall.
