Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D. – Minot State University was outscored 23-9 from the free-throw line en route to a 63-53 loss at South Dakota Mines Saturday.
The Beavers only took 14 total free throws, while the Hardrockers went 23 for 28 from the charity stripe. It was Minot State's season high fifth loss in a row.
MSU outshot Mines from the field, hitting 21 field goals compared to just 17 for the Hardrockers. MSU struggled a bit in the first half, shooting just 34 percent, but rebounded for a 43 percent clip in the second. In fact, MSU only allowed Mines nine field goals in the second half and a 32 percent shooting pace.
Mines, however, hit four 3-pointers of their nine field goals and added 11 free throws.
Three Hardrockers finished in double figures paced by Shalane Hampp's game-high 17 points. Hillary Hawkins added 14 and Justine Blade scored 13. Hawkins led the Hardrockers with six rebounds, while Hampp added six steals and four assists in the win.
Sacarra Molina (Jr., G, Hinsdale, Mont.) scored 16 points to pace the Beavers' offense.
Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia) scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for MSU in the loss.
MSU (10-12 overall) will look to snap the losing streak with a pair of road games next weekend at the University of Sioux Falls.
