Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minot State University's fight was much better Saturday night.
The University of Sioux Falls hit six straight free throws down the stretch to fend off a comeback attempt by MSU winning 62-58 in nonconference NCAA Division II women's basketball Saturday at Stewart Center.
The game was tied 11 times and featured 12 lead changes. It was in stark contrast to Friday's game where the Cougars beat up MSU in nearly every facet of the game. Saturday, the statistics were as close as the final score.
MSU hit 37.3 percent of its shots, while USF hit 36.8. MSU hit one more 3-pointer in the game (4-3) and outrebounded the Cougars (40-36), while USF hit two more field goals (21-19) and one more free throw (17-16).
The Cougars (21-3 overall) broke the final tie with a free throw by Holli Aggen with 1:34 to play in the game, giving Sioux Falls a 56-55 lead. USF outscored MSU 8-3 in the final two minutes, six coming from the charity stripe.
MSU (10-14) took a one-point lead into the locker room, but allowed the Cougars to push a lead to seven twice in the second half. The final time came with 8:07 to play on a free throw by Elizabeth Hildreth. But the Beavers promptly went on 7-0 run started by a three-point play by
Lauren Safranksi (Jr., G, Burnsville, Minn.) and capped by a layup with 6:39 remaining by
Carly Boag (So., F, Tamworth, Australia).
Neither team enjoyed a bigger lead than three until the final run by USF.
The Cougars' Jamey Hofer scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Rushton added 12 points.
Boag led Minot State with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Morgan Klose (Fr., G, Fairview, Mont.) added 10 points hitting 3-of-5 3-pointers on the night and added three steals.
The Beavers will finish off their season at the Vegas D2 Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev., Saturday and Sunday.
