CLERMONT, Fla. – Minot State University softball dropped a pair of games Tuesday as the Beavers were defeated 6-4 by Stonehill College and 5-2 by Lock Haven University at the National Training Center Tournament.
The Beavers trailed early against Stonehill as MSU allowed three runs in the third inning, none of which scored via a base hit.
It would be the story of the game for MSU starter
Jen Dixon (So., P/OF, Brandon, Manitoba) as she gave up a bases loaded walk to score one run, a second run scored on a passed ball and the third and final run crossed home after an error. Dixon went four innings, giving up just five hits and allowed all six runs but just one was earned.
MSU cut the lead to 3-2 in the third, 6-3 in the fifth and the eventual final in the seventh, but couldn't grab the lead.
Against Lock Haven, MSU was the team to put a run early, scoring in the game's first run off a RBI single by
Katie Backes (So., OF, Minot, N.D.) in the third.
But Lock Haven put up four in the fifth to take a lead they didn't relinquish.
MSU outhit Lock Haven 11-7 in the game.
Tiffany Friesen (Jr., P/3B, Morden, Manitoba),
Deanna Mitchell (Sr., 1B, Portage, Manitoba) and Backes all finished with two hits in the game for the Beavers.
The Beavers will look to end a mild losing streak with a pair of games Thursday, starting with Saint Michael's College (3 p.m. ET) and ending with Bentley University (5 p.m. ET).
