CLERMONT, Fla. – Minot State University pitchers
Mandy Greenberg (Jr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) and
Tiffany Friesen (Jr., Morden, Manitoba) combined for a gem to end the Beavers spring break trip.
Greenberg gave up just three hits and struck out nine over 5 1/3 innings and Friesen didn't allow a hit as MSU topped New York Institute of Technology 7-0 to end the Beavers play in the National Training Center Tournament.
MSU earned its first sweep of the tournament Friday and has won four of its past five games to even the 2012 record at 9-9.
The Beavers scored single runs in the second and fourth innings before pouring it on with five in the top of the fifth.
Deanna Mitchell (Sr., 1B, Portage, Manitoba),
Katelyn Burns (Jr., SS, Cypress, Calif.) and
Carmen Vargas (Jr., C, Cathedral City, Calif.) all finished with two hits.
Katie Backes (So., OF, Minot, N.D.) and Vargas drove in two for the Beavers.
It was more than enough for the Beavers pitching staff as Greenberg gave up a pair of singles to Nicole Marquez and a lone single by Makenzie Jones.
The Beavers only have a little rest as they travel to St. Cloud State for a double header March 22.
