Beavers stay perfect at home

MSU wins two more to run home record to 8-0

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University softball remained perfect at home.

The Beavers also continued to score runs as MSU swept visiting Valley City State 5-1 and 10-0 in nonconference NCAA Division II softball Wednesday at South Hill Complex.

Minot State has won eight straight at South Hill and are currently riding a 12-game winning streak.

The Beavers broke through early in game 1, getting three in the bottom of the first to set the tone. It was more than enough for Mandy Greenberg (Jr., P, Winnipeg, Manitoba), who cruised to a five-hitter, giving up just one run and striking out 10.

While VCSU starting pitcher Katie McBride only gave up five hits as well, MSU made the most of their chances. The Beavers capitalized on two VCSU errors in the first inning and got a two-run bomb from Melissa Bell (Fr., C, Belgrade, Mont.) in the second inning.

Bell, Tiffany Friesen (Jr., P/3B, Morden, Manitoba) and Stacy Fournier (So., INF, Langley, British Columbia) all drove in runs. Kyla Thiesen (Sr., 2B, Brandon, Manitoba) and Bell both scored two runs for MSU.

In game 2, it was much of the same.

MSU scored all 10 runs in the first three innings and put up an eight-spot in the second highlighted by a grand slam by Colleen Bertrand (So., C, Langley, British Columbia) and a two-run single by Bell.

Friesen continued her solid spring with a four-inning no-hitter – her second in as many games – to earn the win. She struck out five and walked just one. Jen Dixon (So., OF/P, Brandon, Manitoba) cleaned up the final inning, facing just three batters.

Dixon also pushed home a pair of runs as well as Fournier, who went 2 for 3 in game 2.

MSU puts its winning streak on the line as they travel to Minnesota Crookston, a future Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe, for a pair of nonconference games Thursday.
