MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State wrestling team was unable to continue their hot 2-0 start to the season when they traveled to Great Falls, Mont. Friday to compete in three dual meets.
 
In the first match of the day, the Beavers fell to national ranked McKendree University by a team score of 40-12. Aside from Anthony Battle's (So., 125, Wahiawa, Hawaii) win by forfeit, Mitchell Eull (So., HWT, Buffalo, Minn.) was the only Beaver to record a win for Minot State.
 
The second dual of the day proved to be much of the same for Minot State as they fell 30-18 to Northwest College. Ricard Avakovs (Jr., 165, Riga, Latvia) got his first win of the day as he beat his opponent 6-4. Eull picked up his second win of the day defeating Gabriel Escobedo 2-0.
 
Minot State tried to end the day with a win in their final dual against Chadron State, but the Beavers were unable to do so once again. Avakovs picked up his second win of the day when he defeated Chance Helmick 5-2. Eull ended his day a perfect 3-0 with a 5-0 decision over Jake Weber.
 
"These were three tough duals today," Minot State head coach Robin Ersland said. "McKendree was just better than us. They have five or six sixth year guys, so that's a lot of experience for us to overcome. Nice win by Mitch to finish that one on a good note.
 
"A little disappointed with our loss to Northwest," he added. "They were junior college runner-ups last year, but we had a chance to beat them."
 
The Beavers are back at it tomorrow as they are set to compete in the Battle of the Rockies Open. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
