MINOT, N.D. – In the first conference match of the year the Minot State University wrestling team fell 39-9 to Upper Iowa University.
Six of the 10 matches ended in a pin with only one going Minot State's way. That was the biggest take away for first year head coach
Evan Forde.
"What's concerning to me is that we gave up five pins," Forde said. "I think we had some pretty good effort, won a couple of good matches and wrestled well in several matches. We're wrestling well to a certain point and then we're getting caught and pinned.
"On the flip side we have to start finding some pins. We learn what we can from this one and then we have to refocus for next week for [Minnesota State] Mankato coming to town."
In the 141 weight class
Tanner Crissler won a well fought match against the No. 4 wrestler in the region, Jordan Roths in a 3-2 decision.
Mitchell Eull was the lone Beaver on the right side of a pin. After 5:25 he was able to pin his opponent and score six points for MSU resulting in the final 39-9 score.
Minot State will compete again on Friday, December 18 at 6 p.m. against fellow NSIC member Minnesota State.
