Box Score MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State volleyball team battled UMary in a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match, falling 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 16-25).
The loss drops the Beavers to 3-8 (0-3 NSIC) on the season while the Marauders improve to 5-7 (1-2 NSIC).
Sophomores
Emily Falldorf and
Jeanne Brenner led the balanced attack on offense with 10 kills apiece.
Shelby Spuller was third on the team with nine kills while also notching 12 digs on the defensive side.
Kelsey Dewulf dished out 30 assists along with six digs. Falldorf and
Hayley Swain led the defense with six and five blocks, respectively.
Inside Set 1
The two teams traded points to begin the match before the Marauders jumped out to a 10-6 lead. Minot State cut the deficit to 16-14 after blocks by Falldorf and Brenner. After facing a 24-22 deficit, the Beavers battled back with a 4-0 rally off two kills from Brenner, an error from UMary and a kill by Falldorf to win the first set, 26-24.
Inside Set 2
The Beavers carried the momentum into the second set, racing out to an early 4-1 lead after a kill by Swain. UMary climbed their way back, taking a 9-8 lead off an attack error by Brenner and never looked back while winning the second set, 25-16. Swain carried the Beaver offense with three kills in the set.
Inside Set 3
UMary took an early 8-6 lead before the Beavers tied it at 8 off kills from Spuller and
Brileigh Boyce. The Marauder went on a 17-10 run to win the set, 25-16. Falldorf and Spuller paced the Beavers with five and four kills, respectively.
Inside Set 4
The Marauders started the set with a 7-2 advantage before the Beavers cut it to 7-5 off a kill from Brenner and two UMary attack errors. That was as close as Minot State got, as UMary pulled away to a 25-16 victory in the set to seal the match at 3-1.
