MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State men's basketball team hosts Yellowstone Christian and Dickinson State in non-conference action in the Minot State Dome as the Beavers begin the home portion of their 2018-19 schedule. The Beavers will face Yellowstone Christian on Tuesday (Nov. 13) at 7:30 p.m. and then meet Dickinson State on Wednesday (Nov. 14) at 7:30 p.m.
Minot State is currently 1-1 on the season having split a pair of games at the Southwest Baptist Classic last weekend. The Beavers opened the season with an 80-71 loss to Southwest Baptist before bouncing back to defeat Lincoln (Mo.) 78-69.
In the opener against Southwest Baptist, the Beavers lost a 10-point second half lead in the loss. The Beavers shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the first half, but shot 38.7 percent in the second half.
David Akibo poured in 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Minot State, while
Max Cody had 14 points and five assists and
Kyle Beisch scored 12 points.
In the victory over Lincoln (Mo.), the Beavers turned the tables as they overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to notch their first victory of the season. Minot State closed the game on a 13-0 run to secure the win. The Beavers shot 51.7 percent from the floor for the game, including shooting 58.6 percent in the second half.
Akibo had 23 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots to pace the Beavers in the win against Lincoln (Mo.). Cody and
Dorian Aluyi each scored 15 points for Minot State, while
Kody Dwyer added 10 points and five rebounds.
This will mark the second career meeting between the Beavers and the Centurions as Minot State posted a 96-68 victory last season in the MSU Dome.
Minot State has reeled off five consecutive wins against Dickinson State, including an 81-63 victory last season.
