Smestad to Join Beavers Women's Basketball Program

MINOT, N.D. -- Breianna Smestad has signed a national letter of intent to attend Minot State University and play basketball for the Beavers, head coach Mark Graupe announced on Thursday.

Smestad currently attends Maranatha Christian High School in Brooklyn Park, Minn., and will be enrolling at Minot State next fall.

"Breianna is a great addition to our program and has a work ethic that is second to none," said Graupe. "Last year, she was a pass-first type of point guard but was the third-leading scorer on her AAU team this past summer which played against great competition all over the country. Breianna can really shoot it and can score which she will be counted on to do much more of this coming season. We are very fortunate that Breianna has chosen Minot State University to begin her college career."

Smestad comes from a strong basketball family as her step father Greg Amundson, a former Minot State baseball player, is a North Dakota Coaches Hall of Fame member after coaching Mandan to nine state titles while her mother Sheila Amundson (Sauvageau) was an All-American selection at North Dakota Williston.

"Bree is testament to the value of hard work. She has put in the time and effort to make herself into an outstanding college prospect, and her improvement over the past 18 months is indicative of that," said Minnesota Prep Hoops wrter Grand McGinnis. "Of course it doesn't hurt that her mom was an incredible player in her own right, and her step dad is probably the most successful coach in North Dakota history. Minot State is getting a player who plays the game the right way, and she will excel at MSU."
