MINOT, N.D. -- After spending the Thanksgiving holiday in Puerto Rico, the Minot State men's basketball team returns to the comfortable surroundings of the Minot State Dome as the Beavers host Valley City State in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
The Beavers recorded a 1-2 record in Puerto Rico, which included a one-point win in overtime and a one-point loss in regulation play. Minot State defeated Pontifical Catholic 73-72 in overtime to secure a victory on day one of the Puerto Rico Classic.
Max Cody poured in 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor, while
David Akibo had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Beavers.
Kyle Beisch also reached double figures in scoring for Minot State as he finished with 14 points and added six rebounds and five assists.
Minot State then dropped games to Missouri Southern State (76-57) and P.R.-Rio Piedras (50-49) to conclude the tournament.
The Beavers, who are 4-4 on the season, are led in scoring by Akibo who is averaging 14.5 points per game. He also leads Minot State averaging 8.0 rebounds per game and tops the team with seven blocked shots.
Beisch ranks second on the team averaging 14.0 points per game, while Cody is third on the squad averaging 12.1 points per contest.
Dorian Aluyi also averages in double figures for Minot State at 10.4 per game and he ranks second on the team averaging 6.8 rebounds per outing.
Minot State defeated Valley City State 97-64 in an exhibition game on Oct. 25 in Valley City, N.D.
The Vikings are 2-6 on the season, but defeated Bemidji State 86-83 in an exhibition game on Oct. 27.
