MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's basketball team travels for their final road weekend in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this weekend. The Beavers take on Minnesota Duluth on Friday at 6 p.m. in Duluth, Minn. before facing St. Cloud State on Saturday at 4 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn.
Minot State is 10-8 in NSIC play after extending their win streak to seven games after sweeping Southwest Minnesota State (66-48) and Winona State (72-64) on the road last weekend.
The current seven-game conference winning streak is the longest win streak the Beavers have recorded in conference play since joining the NSIC and the longest overall winning streak since opening the 2013-14 season with a 7-0 record.
Minot State is 10-1 on the season when scoring 70 or more points, including 3-0 when surpassing the 80-point mark.
Holly Johnson leads the Beavers in scoring with 16.2 points per game while grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game.
Senior
Kristal Flowers has posted six double-doubles this season and averages 10.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Madison Wald is scoring 10.5 points per game, followed by
Diondra Denton and
Mariah Payne with 8.7 and 8.2 points per game, respectively.
Payne leads the team with 66 assists and Denton has posted a team-high 30 steals while Flowers leads the team with 10 blocks.
Scouting the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs
Minnesota Duluth enters the weekend with a 13-9 (10-8 NSIC) record on the season. Sammy Kozlowski is the lone Bulldog to average double-figures with 11.2 points per game while Katie Stark and Sara Grow add 9.9 and 9.7 points per game, respectively. Grow leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game and 27 blocks while Lazlowski has recorded a team-high 36 steals.
The Bulldogs are scoring 63.7 points per game while shooting 38.9 percent from the floor and 67.7 percent from the free throw line. UMD is grabbing 34.9 rebounds per game while notching 8.9 steals per game and forcing opponents into 16.6 turnovers per game on the defensive end. Opponents are scoring 61.6 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor.
Head coach Mandy Pearson is in her third season with the Bulldogs and has notched a record of 34-42. Pearson is 136-150 in her 11th season of coaching.
Minot State vs. Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth leads the all-time series with Minot State, 6-5. Minot State won 71-67 in their previous meeting earlier this season in Minot, N.D. on Dec. 31, 2017.
Scouting the St. Cloud State Huskies
St. Cloud State comes into the weekend with a 15-7 (12-6) record on the season. Andrea Thomas leads the Huskies with 13.1 points per game, followed by Tori Wortz with 10.5 points per game. Brianna Johnson averages a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game while Nikki Kilboten leads the team with 18 blocks on the season.
The Huskies are scoring 65.5 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the floor and 70.4 percent from the free throw line. Opponents are scoring 58.3 points per game and shooting 39.3 percent from the field. The Huskies are averaging 8.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game on the defensive end while forcing the opponents into 14.2 turnovers per game.
Head coach Lori Fish is 147-122 in 10 seasons at St. Cloud State and has posted a career record of 209-175 in 14 seasons of coaching.
Minot State vs. St. Cloud State
Saturday's game marks the 13th overall meeting between St. Cloud State and Minot State with the Huskies leading the all-time series, 8-4. In their last meeting, Minot State defeated St. Cloud State 61-58 in Minot, N.D. on Dec. 30, 2017.
