(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State wrestling team is set for its second dual and home contest of the 2019-20 season.
The Beavers will host Upper Iowa University on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The dual versus the Peacocks is the first official conference match of the season for the wrestling team.
Series History
- The Peacocks lead the dual history against Minot State 7-0.
- Upper Iowa has won all seven duals by an average margin of 28 points.
- The Peacocks came out on top in last year's dual 33-11 in Fayette, Iowa.
Beaver Tracks
- The Beavers won their first dual of the year just before Thanksgiving break over rival UMary 19-16.
- Joseph Lopez recorded a victory by fall in the Beavers' dual with UMary.
- Other wins came from Dean Arevalo (125), Oscar Nellis (133), Shadi Mitwalli (149), and Keegan Berry (184).
- The Beavers' only returning national qualifier, Jordan Will, may see his first action on the mat this season this Friday.
- Will and Arevalo recently received national rankings of #10 and #11 in their respective weight classes.
Scouting Upper Iowa
- The Peacocks have yet to compete in a dual in the 2019-20 season.
- UIU has had championship-level competition at four different opens this year.
- The Peacocks are currently ranked 6th in the NWCA Division II Top 25.
- Four Upper Iowa wrestlers are also ranked in the NWCA Division II Individual Rankings. Justin Folley is ranked 4th at 133, Brock Benitz is ranked 4th at 165, Dalton Hahn is ranked 11th at 184, and Nick Baumler is ranked 1st at 197.
- Baumler is also the defending NSIC Wrestler of the Week.
