Beaver Men's Basketball Hits the Road, Looking to Extend Winning Streak

(MINOT, N.D.) – The Minot State University, men's basketball team, is headed back on the road this weekend, looking to continue their winning streak as they take on Augustana and Wayne State.

SERIES HISTORY:
Friday's game is just the ninth matchup on record between the Beavers and Augustana Vikings. The first five matchups were all won by Augustana, but since then, the Beavers have taken control, winning three straight, dating back to 12/9/2016.

The series with Wayne State is also one that has not been played often, as Saturday's matchup will be just the eighth between the two teams. Wayne State has been victorious in four of the previous seven matchups with the Wildcats winning the most recent matchup last season.

SHOOTING THE LIGHTS OUT:
In the weekend sweep last weekend, the Beavers shot a combined 55.9 (61-109) percent.

BALANCED SCORING:
Minot State has been looking for more balanced scoring throughout the season, and last weekend they received it. On Friday night, against Bemidji Minot State had three players score 19 or more points, and on Saturday, the Beavers had four double-digit scorers.

OWNING THE GLASS:
A big key in the recent Minot State winning streak has been the dominance in rebounding. Last weekend the Beavers combined to outrebound Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston 79-42.

DYNAMIC DUO:
Kyle Beisch and Max Cody continue to be the biggest threats to opposing teams. Beisch leads the team, scoring 18.9 points per contest, while Cody averages 15.4. Beisch had 14 assists over the two games this past weekend.

ASSISTING THE OFFENSE:
Cody has been a threat to score buckets, but that is not the only worry the defense should have when he has the ball. Cody has been the leader in the conference in assists all season long, currently averaging 6.4 per game.

ON THE MONEY:
Kody Dwyer does not take a ton of shots, but when he does, it is probably going through the bottom of the net. He is shooting 70.9 (112-158) percent on the year to lead the NSIC.

DEFENSE DEFENSE:
The Beaver defense has been a strength throughout the season, currently sitting in third in the NSIC in points per game allowed at 68.6. The Beavers also continue to do a great job defending the three-point arc, allowing teams to hit just 30.9 percent of their attempts.

SCOUTING REPORT:
Augustana – Augustana has started the season 12-8, with an NSIC record of 7-7. The Vikings have had a potent offense, scoring 80.5 points per game, good for fourth in the NSIC. Despite not shooting a high percentage, they are fifth in three-pointers made. Augustana also does a great job at the free-throw line, hitting over 76 percent of their attempts, the third-best mark in the NSIC. The Vikings are a force on the glass, leading the Northern Sun in rebounding. Tyler Riemersma is the only player in the NSIC, averaging a double-double as he scores over 13 points per contest and grabs an NSIC leading 10.1 rebounds per game. Matt Todd is a sharpshooter. Todd shoots over 40% from the here-point arc.

Wayne State – Wayne State has had a tough start to the season, getting out to an 8-15 record, and 5-9 in the NSIC. The Wildcats are coming off of two straight wins at Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. Wayne State is led by Jordan Janssen, scoring 17.7 points per game. Nick Ferrarini is #19 in the NSIC in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game. Janssen also is an elite rebounder, averaging 9.7 per game, second in the Northern Sun. Janssen is shooting at a high level, at 53.9 percent.
