Men's Basketball Concludes Season in Opening Round Loss at Sioux Falls

Box Score (SIOUX FALLS, S.D.) – The Minot State men's basketball team's 2019-20 season came to an end this evening at the hands of the NSIC South Division champion Sioux Falls Cougars. In the opening round of the NSIC Tournament, Sioux Falls came back from an early deficit to beat Minot State 79-68.

The Cougars led by just three points at halftime after the Beavers led for most of the first half. After USF lead 4-3 in the first few minutes, Minot State went on a 20-13 run and commanded the first ten minutes of the contest. Sioux Falls rallied, though, and eventually earned the lead before the break.

After half, the Cougars offense picked up where it left off and outscored the Beavers by eight in the final twenty minutes. Minot State attempted a rally and chipped the lead down to fewer than ten but could not complete the mission and subsequently fell short.

Kyle Beisch, Minot State's leading scorer, netted 28 points in the contest. He was followed by Trevor Rothstein with 15 and Max Cody with 12. Rothstein also lead the Beavers in rebounds with five total collections. Cody recorded team-highs in assists with five and steals with two.

Sioux Falls enjoyed a balance scoring attack with six players in double-figures. Chase Grinde led the Cougars with 20 followed by Austin Slater with 13. Troy Houghton, Teathloach Pal, and Jack Thompson each added 10. Pal dominated the glass with a game-high eight rebounds while Grinde made the same number of assists.

Sioux Falls' win advanced them to the next round of the NSIC Tournament in the Sanford Pentagon.

Minot State concluded the 2019-2020 year with a record of 10-19 overall and a record of 4-19 in NSIC play.
