MATCH NOTES
DIVISIONAL FOES
Northern State and Minot State are quite familiar with each other in every sport, not just on the mat. The two wrestling teams have been evenly matched throughout their historical rivalry with the Wolves leading the all-time series 5-4.
Northern State won the most recent dual against the Beavers by a score of 29-12 in January of last year.
Prior to that contest, Minot State had won two in a row in 2018 and 2019. The Beavers are 2-3 against Northern State at home.
ONWARD BEAVERS
Minot State bounced back from a disappointing opener with an excellent effort in their second dual of the year.
Against UMary, the Beavers got out to a quick start with wins from
Oscar Nellis,
Lincoln Stormer, and
Shadi Mitwalli.
The Marauders dominated the middleweights, however, and eventually captured a lead which they would not surrender. Despite their efforts, Minot State enters this week's dual at 0-2 overall.
LEADERS OF THE PACK
Northern State has had an impressive start to the 2020-21 season with two wins over Top 25 teams. The Wolves edged out an 18-15 victory to start the year and took care of NSIC newcomer Wisconsin-Parkside by a tally of 20-12.
In their most recent dual against Parkside, NSU grapplers took six of the 10 matches and, at times, looked dominant. Kolton Roth and Wyatt Turnquist were both victorious by major decision at 141 pounds and 149 pounds respectively.
At 174 pounds, Cole Huss earned a hard-fought sudden victory decision in overtime. The Wolves will look to continue their winning ways this week in Minot.
