Beaver Women's Basketball Takes Momentum on the Road to Undefeated Bemidji State

MINOT, N.D. –  The MSU women's basketball team will hit the road again this weekend for a weekend series at Bemidji State. The Battle of the Beavers will be renewed this Friday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. and again on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m.
 
Both squads are coming into this weekend with momentum, as each team swept their opponent a week ago.

GAME NOTES

Series History
  • Minot State leads the all-time series 11-5.
  • Bemidji State won the most recent tilt between the two teams in convincing fashion 83-54 last February.
  • Prior to the most recent game, Minot State won five consecutive contests, including three in Bemidji.
  • Altogether, Minot State is 6-2 all-time at Bemidji State and 7-3 in the last ten games.
Beavers by the Numbers
  • Amber Stevahn continues to put up excellent numbers for Minot State. She leads the team in scoring (17.5 ppg), rebounding (6.8 RPG), and minutes played (31.5 mpg). Amber is currently third in the NSIC in that scoring and tenth in rebounding.
  • Stevahn was also recently named NSIC North Division Player of the Week after nearly averaging a double-double in the Beavers' sweep of Minnesota-Crookston.
  • Kate Head has also been an important cog in the Minot State offense with the team's best assist numbers. She averages almost five per game. Head leads the league in assists per game.
  • Conversely, Bethany Theodore paces the Beavers in takeaways with 2.0 steals per game.
  • Theodore is also the most dependable free throw shooter with a 93% clip from the stripe.
  • Haley Hildenbrand does score in volume but makes her buckets very efficiently. The senior is currently shooting 58.6% from the field. Stevahn follows her closely in that category with a 58.2% field goal shooting rate.
  • Despite a slow start from behind the three-point arc, Lucy Chapman has started heating up. She leads the team in that stat with a 33% rate from deep.
Scouting Report 
  • Bemidji State boasts a balanced offensive attack lead by three players averaging in double figures. Brooklyn Bachmann, Rachael Heittola, and Trinity Myer average 16.7 ppg, 13.7 ppg, and 13.0 ppg, respectively.
  • Bachmann's scoring average is good enough to rank sixth in the NSIC.
  • Heittola scores her points on a 61.5% field goal shooting rate.
  • Bachmann also leads the team in rebounding with an average of 7.5 boards per game. She is fifth in the conference in that stat.
  • Myer and Bachmann are also excellent distributors with 4.2 APG and 4.0 APG, respectively.
