Beaver Women’s Basketball Set to Begin Regular Season at D2CCA Tip Off Classic in Billings

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State Women's basketball team is set to kick off the 2021-22 season at the D2CCA Tip Off Classic at the Trailhead tournament this weekend. The tournament is hosted by Montana State University Billings.

Tournament Lineup
The tournament will feature 10 teams, from seven different states, and six conferences. This three-day tournament will begin Friday, November 5 at Alterowitz Gym as the Beavers take on the Yellowjackets. The Beavers are 1-1 overall facing Montana State Billings. The Minot State women's basketball team will face Kutztown University at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Nova Southeastern University on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out the tournament. The Beavers will take on Kutztown University and Nova Southeastern University for the first time in their history.

2020 Returners
Due to the pandemic, Minot State is coming off a shortened season of 14 games. In that shortened season, the Beavers faced tough competition and ended the season with a record of four and eight overall. Top players return for the 2021-22 season, led by preseason player to watch, Amber Stevahn. Stevahn average 15.2 points per game and finished with 90 rebounds on the year. Anna Counts led Minot State in rebounds, averaging 6.6 per game, with 92 rebounds on the season. Difference maker Kate Head is coming off a strong 2020-21 season with 14 steals and averaging 6.9 points per game.

Top Newcomers
The Beavers introduce four freshmen as they enter the 2021-22 season, which includes Emma Mogen, Katie Aberle, Ashley Holen, and Gina Stefferud. The newcomers are looking to add depth and energy to the women's basketball team.

Looking Ahead
Following the tournament, Minot State will host Black Hills State University in back-to-back games beginning Friday, November 12. The Beavers play Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., followed by a Saturday night game at 8 p.m. at the MSU Dome.
