Three Program Records fall for Minot State Track and Field at Bison Open

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State track and field team saw three program records fall as Jacob Jensen (Mile, 4:16.06), Ashley Miller (300m, 42.07), and Lewis Cotterill (600m, 1:25.04) all etched their names in the NCAA DII program record books with blazing fast times at the NDSU Bison Open on Friday.

The event began with the men's 5k and Tito Gonzalez earned a spot on the podium in 2nd-place with a time of 16:05.01 which was good for the 7th-fastest time in Minot State DII era. Grayson Bonilla finished 6th in the same event with a time of 16:37.57 (DII, No. 9), Ryan Kohler placed 7th with a time of 16:37.61, and Nick Merillana finished 10th with a time of 17:11.36. 

In the women's mile, Linda Perez placed the 2nd-fastest time in MSU DII history with a 5:12.27 clocking to finish fourth. Jessica Martinez placed 8th with a time of 5:28.03 which was good for 9th in the DII era for the Beavers.

Jensen clocked the fastest time in program history in the mile, with a 4:16.06 and a 5th-place finish in the Bison Open. Nathan Trujillo-Aragon placed third in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.8 and Chase Doty finished 17th in the 60 dash with a time of 7.36. Connor Bishop clocked a time of 7.73 in the 60 dash which was 20th in the event. 

Hunter Clark finished 8th in the men's weight throw with a toss of 14.37 meters. Corbin Harris finished 13th (13.26) and Samuel Kreins finished 17th (12.90). 

In the men's long jump, Howard Wade Jr. placed 12th in the Bison Open with a leap of 5.30 meters. In the men's 400, Chase Tandy earned another podium appearance with a 2nd-place finish (50.51) while posting the fourth-fastest time in MSU DII history. Joseph Green finished 13th with a time of 52.57 which was a personal record and 9th-fastest in DII era for MSU. 

Miller set a school record in the women's 300m with a time of 42.07 to break the DII record the second of two program records to fall in the meet. She finished second in the race and set a personal record as well. 

Whitney Hanson finished on another podium for the Beavers with the third-fastest time of 2:19.03 in the women's 800. Emily Hansen placed 9th with a time of 2:28.25 which was good for the 9th-fastest time in DII program history and a personal best. 

Cotterill broke the third program record at the meet for the Beavers with a 1st-place finish in the 600m and a time of 1:25.04, which was also a personal record, and the fastest time in Minot State DII history! Vincente Guereca finished 4th in the same event with a time of 1:33.57 which was the 7th fastest time in Minot State DII era and a personal record for him. 

In the women's 1000m, Abby McGee placed 9th with a time of 3:06.95 and Monica Okopal finished 14 with a time of 3:33.76, which was a personal record for Okopal. 

To the men's side of the track in the 1000m, Marco Murillo placed 8th with a time of 2:49.01 and Christian Bird Hat finished 10th with a time of 3:08.07.
