DICKINSON, N.D. -- The Minot State University track and field team competed in its final regular-season meet at Dickinson State University in the Last Chance Meet prior to NSIC Outdoor Championships next weekend.
Amber Stevahn once again competed in the women's high jump this week and took home first place with a DII program-record 1.58 meter marking in the event which bested her own marking of 1.53m that she set a couple of weeks ago at the Northern State Open.
The women's throws team had particularly strong competition with
Breanna Johns-Oster earning first place with a shot put throw of 12.16m. Just missing out on the podium was
Samantha Brunelle with her fourth-place finish after a throw of 11.46m.
Chloe Gunderson finished 6th with a throw of 11.38m and
Fadzai Madavo recorded the 10th-farthest throw of 9.73m.
Gunderson also finished second in the women's discus with a toss of 37.34m and
Sophia Kenyon posted a 6th-place finish in the same event with a throw of 30.87m.
Johns-Oster continued her solid meet with a 2nd-place finish in the women's hammer throw after delivering an impressive mark of 43.64m. The Beavers finished with three in the top-five of the hammer finals as
Peyton Lammerding recorded a throw of 42.86m and
Tori Nygard continues to shine late in the season with a 5th-place finish (42.18m).
Sophia Kenyon threw the 6th-farthest throw of 38.78m and Brunelle recorded the 10th-farthest throw of 34.51m as the Beavers split the top 10 with five finishers.
Nygard finished 6th in the women's javelin with a throw of 33.52m and
Danielle Stauffer closed her day in 8th place with a throw of 31.74m.
The Beaver throws group continues to put up strong showings over the past two weeks and is peaking at the right time heading into the NSIC Championships.
On the track with the women's team,
Abby McGee finished 5th in the 1500 meter finals with a run of 5:00.06 and
Alicia Murillo was just behind her in 6th place with a time of 5:00.38.
Ashley Miller placed 2nd in the women's 200-meter finals with a time of 26.69 and Stevahn placed 3rd with a time of 27.08 to grab two podium spots.
Fadzai Madavo posted a 4th-place finish with a time of 14:30 in the 100-meter finals.
Emily Hansen posted the 8th-fastest time in the 800m finals and McGee finished 10th (2:37.43) along with
Monica Okopal finishing in 11th (2:38.48).
Transitioning to the men's side of the track and field in the DSU Last Chance Meet.
Joseph Green continues to solidify his standing in the NSIC Championship picture with a 3rd-place finish in the men's 200 meters finals (21.91).
Chase Doty finished 10th (22.91) and
Connor Bishop was 13th (24.52) in the same event.
Green took a step back on the podium in the men's 400 meters with the second-fastest time of 50.38 and
Vincente Guereca finished 4th with a time of 55.89.
Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty finished 3rd in the 800m with a solid time of (1:59.39).
Jacob Jensen finished 4th with a time of 2:00.39,
Juan Gutierrez finished 5th with a time of 2:01.91,
Marco Murillo was 6th (2:03.16), and
Christian Bird Hat was 11th (2:22.30).
Tito Gonzalez finished 3rd in the men's 5000 meters finals with a time of 16:06.98.
Grayson Bonilla wasn't far behind with a 6th-place finish and a time of 16:25.66.
Ryan Kohler was 8th (16:51.18) and
Gavin Jorgensen was 12th (17:49.37).
The Beaver throws squad continued to put up impressive numbers on the men's side with a 2nd-place finish by
Logan Krueger (14.30m) and a 3rd-place finish by
Corbin Harris (13.76m).
Hunter Clark finished 7th in the discus with a throw of 36.67m.
Krueger won the men's hammer throw with a distance of 57.21m and the Beavers went 1-2-3 with
Samuel Kreins finishing second (46.29m) and Harris placing 3rd (45.53m).
Leif Nelson placed 3rd in the men's javelin finals with a launch of 51.50m.
The Beavers are back in action next weekend (May 14-15) at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minn.
