MINOT, ND --Amber Stevahn hit a shot with just eight seconds remaining in the game to put the Minot State women's basketball team ahead for good in a 71-70 victory over the Wayne State (NE) Wildcats at home Saturday.
The Beavers (6-10, 4-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Stevahn, who had 25 points and seven rebounds. Janie Wunderlich added 11 points and Kate Head added eight points, six assists and two blocks.
Minot State forced 15 Wayne State (NE) turnovers in Saturday's game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kennedy Harris' four steals led the way for Minot State.
How It Happened
Minot State went on a 6-0 run with 8:50 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Wunderlich, to take a 6-1 lead. The Beavers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 21-18.
The Beavers fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 33-31 by the time halftime rolled around.
Wayne State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 50-43 advantage before Minot State went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 50-48 with 54 seconds to go in the third. Wayne State countered and stretched its lead to 55-48 heading into the fourth. Minot State scored four fast break points in the quarter.
Minot State narrowed its deficit to 70-66 before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Stevahn's jumper, to seize a 71-70 lead with eight seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. The Beavers took advantage of six Wayne State turnovers in the quarter, scoring 10 points off of those takeaways.

Amber Stevahn broke the 2,000-point milestone in tonight's match-up, as she now has 2,007 points in her collegiate career. Stevahn recorded 1,519 points in two seasons at Bismarck State College and has scored 488 points for Minot State.Â
