MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State men's basketball team returns to action Friday, Jan. 28 with a 7:30 p.m. NSIC road matchup against the #19 ranked Peacocks of Upper Iowa University. The Beavers conclude weekend play with a 5:30 p.m. tip off against the Winona State University Warriors on the road in Mccown Stadium.
Last Time Out
Minot State is coming off of back-to-back NSIC victories. On Friday, Jan. 21 the Beavers defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 97-69. Followed by a 98-54 victory over the Golden Bears of Concordia St. Paul on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Five different Minot State Beavers posted double digit scoring performances over the weekend. Led by NSIC Player of the Week
Melvin Newbern, averaging 17.5 points per game over the two-game stretch.
Scouting the Peacocks
Upper Iowa University (17-3 overall, 11-3 NSIC) enters the weekend winners of five of their last six games. Minot State looks to cool off the Peacocks high scoring trio of Jareese Williams, Joe Smoldt and Jake Hilmer. The trio enters play averaging over 52 points per game.
Scouting Winona State
The Warriors of Winona State (11-6 overall, 7-5 NSIC) enter the weekend winners of two of their last three. Junior guard Alec Rosner leads the Warriors in scoring with over 17 points per game, while posting no less than 25 points in three of the last five games.
Next Time Out
The Beavers remain on the road next weekend with two NSIC contests. On Friday, Feb. 4 Minot State travels to Bemidji State University for a 7:30 p.m. tip off with the Beavers. Followed by a 5:30 p.m. tip off against the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Feb. 5.
