MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minot State men's wrestling team continued to impress, racking up four more tournament titles on Saturday at the Dragon Open hosted by Minnesota State Moorhead.
Jake Swirple,
Cannon Potts, and
Brendan Barnes led the way as each remained unbeaten on the season as they claimed titles, while
Cayden White added the other championship with a perfect day for the Beavers.
Swirple improved to 4-0 on the season and 18-0 in his collegiate career with a pair of wins to earn the heavyweight Red Division title, and Potts improved to a team-best 9-0 this season as he picked up three wins, including one by pin, to win the 174-pound weight class Red Division title.
The Beavers ended up assured of a title at 165 pounds where
Brendan Barnes improved to 5-0 on the season as he picked up three wins for the championship, which came at the expense of teammate
Brody Mohr.
Mohr was second at 165 pounds as the two met in the title match. Mohr finished 2-1 in the tournament.
Adding the fourth title was White who went 3-0 on Saturday and recorded two wins by pin to finish first at 184 pounds.
Also competing in title matches, but coming up just short, were
Nathan Baca at 157 pounds in the Red Division, and
Cristian Lagunes, who advanced to the 133-pound weight class title match in the White Division. Baca went 3-1 in the tournament, taking second, as did Lagunes.
Next up for the Beavers is a dual at Dickinson State next Saturday, Dec. 10.
