Beavers host Southwest Minnesota State in first round of NSIC/Sanford Health Men’s Basketball Tournament

MINOT, ND- The Minot State men's basketball team returns to action in the MSU Dome on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 6:00 p.m. against Southwest Minnesota State University in the first round of the 2022 NSIC/Sanford Health men's basketball tournament.

Last Time Out
Minot State (15-9 overall, 9-9 NSIC) enters the playoffs winners of three of their last five games, despite dropping their last two games of the regular season moving the Beavers to 4th place in the NSIC North.
Melvin Newbern sparked the Minot State offense over the weekend, averaging 23 points and 7.5 rebounds over the two-game stretch.

Scouting Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs enter the playoffs victorious in two of their last three regular season games. Minot State and Southwest Minnesota State split the season series in 2020-2021, both teams winning two games and losing two games. Kenny Byers, Jake Phipps and Dunwa Omot lead the Southwest Minnesota State offense, each averaging better than 11 points per game.

NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament
The winner of Wednesday's first round game advances to the quarterfinals to take on Augustana University on Saturday, Feb 26, at 1:30 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D. at the Sanford Pentagon.
