MINOT, N.D.- The Minot State men's wrestling team fell in their final NSIC home dual of the season to the ranked Augustana Vikings by a final score of 27-12.
Starting off the afternoon saw junior
Shadi Mitwalli fall in the last period to Augie's
Hunter Burnett by a 13-7 decision giving Augie the 3-0 lead on the day.
Augie stretched the lead to 6-0 thanks in part to
Tyler Wagener sliding past junior
Nathan Baca with a 5-2 decision.
Miles Fitzgerald doubled down on freshman
Cannon Potts by an 8-3 decision to move Augie up 9-0 on the afternoon.
Augie's dominant start continued as 2
nd ranked
Cade Mueller pinned sophomore
Austin Frantzich only 35 seconds into the faceoff, to increase the Augie lead to 15-0.
Senior
Keegan Berry impressed yet again by taking ranked
Kolby Kost to overtime before falling by a 3-1 final to further increase Augustana's lead to 18-0.
Sophomore
Dustin Swisher put up the first points on the day by getting the pin with 1:27 left in the first period over
Daniel Bishop to cut the Augie lead to 18-6.
Senior BIG
Jordan Will pushed some more momentum in favor of the Beavers by sliding past ranked
Steven Hajas by a 2-0 score to make it 18-9 in favor of Augustana.
Junior
Oscar Nellis came away with another decision over a ranked Viking as Nellis took the 4-2 decision over
Jaxson Rohman to make it 18-12 Augustana.
In the 133-pound weight class Augie's
Jack Huffman pinned senior
Brandon Meikel with 1:37 left in the first period to put the Vikings out of reach at 24-12.
Rounding out the day saw
Brayden Curry power past freshman
Kelby Armstrong by a 4-1 decision to complete the Viking victory 27-12.
The Bevers will head back to the MSU Dome one last time this season for senior night against long-time and in-state rival the Dickinson State Blue Hawks on Wednesday February 9
th at 7 p.m. MSU will wrap up their regular season with an NSIC showdown against arch-nemesis the UMary Marauders Thursday February 10
that 7 p.m. in Bismarck.
