ABERDEEN, S.D. – Back in action in their second-straight NSIC dual, the Minot State men's wrestling team got a win each from
Nathan Baca and
Jake Swirple but could not prevail in the team battle with host Northern State.
The 21
st-ranked Wolves (4-2 duals, 2-1 NSIC) scored a 32-10 win in the dual against Minot State (5-5, 0-2).
Baca earned one of Minot State's two wins in his 157-pound match with Devin Bahr as Baca won by pin in the final 11 seconds of the second round.
Also scoring a victory on the day at heavyweight was Swirple who scored an 8-0 major decision win over Nathan Schauer.
Brendan Barnes nearly added another victory for the Beavers at 165 pounds, battling to a 4-4 tie in regulation only to see Chase Bloomquist claim the victory thanks to a point for 1 minute, 21 seconds of advantage time in the match.
Minot State now heads home to the MSU Dome where the Beavers will compete for the first time in two months, hosting duals on back-to-back weekends starting on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. when MSU Moorhead visits.
