BROOKINGS, S.D. – Senior distance runner
Jacob Jensen led the way for the Beavers on Saturday as the Minot State track and field teams battled a power-packed field featuring six NCAA Division I programs at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitation indoor track and field meet hosted by South Dakota State.
Jensen clocked the third-fastest time in the NSIC this winter in the mile, finishing 16
th in the event Saturday in 4 minutes, 14.92 seconds.
That led the way for the Minot State men who also got a couple of other season-best performances, one from the quartet of
Nathan Trujillo-Aragon,
Juan Gutierrez,
Peyton Tuhy, and
Francis Short Bull who clocked the team's fastest time this winter in the 4x400-meter relay of 3:33.46, good for 16
th as well.
The other season-best came from thrower
Samuel Kreins in the shot put as he finished 11
th in the event Saturday with an effort of 49 feet, 3.75 inches.
While they led the men, it was
Sidra Sadowsky and Emily Smith who turned in top performances for the Minot State women as Sadowsky ran the team's best time this winter in the 800 meters, finishing 19
th in 2:20.36, and Smith had the fastest 3,000-meter time for the Beavers as she was 32
nd on Saturday in 10:55.98.
Midway through the winter season, the Beavers get little time to rest before heading out to compete once again at a big NCAA Division I-packed meet as Minot State competes at the University of North Dakota Open next Saturday.
