MINOT, N.D. – It's going to be a busy day for the Minot State wrestling teams, but that's exactly how they planned things.
The Minot State women's team hosts four opponents this Friday for the 2
nd annual Beaver Bash Duals at the MSU Dome, while the Minot State men's team hosts two opposing teams for their annual edition of the Beaver Bash this Friday, as well, as the MSU Dome.
Action gets underway at noon with the first two women's duals.
The Minot State women beginning their first of four matches at 1 p.m. against Northland Community and Technical College (Minn.).
The Minot State women wrestle Saskatchewan at 2 p.m., the Beavers take on Dickinson State at 4 p.m., then wrap up the day against Jamestown at 6 p.m.
Men's action begins at 3 p.m.
The Beaver men hit the mats to take on Saskatchewan starting at 4:30 p.m. The Minot State men's second match will be at 6 p.m. against Northland CTC.
The busy weekend is the second meet of the season for the second-year Minot State women's program, which started the year last weekend in Georgia at the Eagles Madness tournament hosted by Life.
Newcomer
Bella Hernandez led the way that day as she went 3-2 in her collegiate debut at 130 pounds.
Returning national qualifier
Nina Sandoval was 2-2 for Minot State at 155 pounds at the Life tournament, while freshman
Julia Petryna added a pair of wins at 116 pounds.
Also recording their first collegiate victories were freshmen
Ari Korish (123) and
Michelle Klein (170) for the Minot State women.
On the men's side, the Beavers boast a more veteran roster that has already competed in a pair of events this season with two wrestlers bringing home tournament championships as senior
Kelby Armstrong won the 157-pound weight class at the Jimmie Open hosted by Jamestown two weekends ago, while junior-college transfer
Wayne Joint won the 133-pound title at the Dakota Wesleyan Open last weekend.
While that duo have grabbed top honors so far this season, the Beavers have also taken home a slew of Top 3 finishes over the opening two weekends as
Ethan Wonser (141) and
Cannon Potts (197) both were second at the Jimmie Open, and
Kasius Graham (149),
Ryan Hrcka (157), and
Cayden White (184) were third at the Jamestown.
Logen Fischer (125) was third at the Dakota Wesleyan Open, and
Brendan Barnes (165) finished third at both events for the Beavers.
That gives the Minot State men's team plenty of talented grapplers to watch when they hit the mats Friday afternoon.
