MINOT, N.D. – Minot State's
Brendan Barnes provided the biggest highlight of the night for a second weekend in a row, this time with a pin.
The 20
th-ranked Barnes, who last weekend upset then-No. 3 Anthony Herrera from St. Cloud State, earned another upset win, this time over No. 5 Braydon Huber in their 165-pound match by pin with 27 seconds left, one of three wins for the Beavers in a 29-12 non-conference loss to the visiting University of Mary Marauders.
No. 13-ranked
Jake Swirple added another thrilling victory, his coming in the overtime tiebreaker 2-1 over No. 11 Luke Tweeton in their heavyweight bout as Swirple earned one point for an escape in the first tie-breaker session for the margin of victory.
The final W of the day for Minot State (3-2 duals, 1-1 NSIC) went to
Kasius Graham at 149 pounds as he won a 14-10 decision over Kaden Renner.
The dual wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of the Beavers schedule. Minot State will be off for nearly a month before returning to the mats in Colorado, competing at the Western Colorado Open on January 5 and the Tracy Borah Duals hosted by Western Colorado on January 6.
