Beavers Set for Two-Game Week, Host Bismarck State Before Traveling to New Town

MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State men's basketball team returns to action this week with a pair of non-conference matchups, hosting Bismarck State College on Wednesday before traveling to New Town, ND, to take on Montana State University Billings on Saturday.

The Beavers enter the week 1-1 following a competitive road trip to Oklahoma that featured a gritty 78-76 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State and a hard-fought 78-67 battle with East Central. Minot State showed strong resilience in both contests, highlighted by standout performances from guard Darik Dissette, who opened the season with a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) before following it up with a 22-point, eight-rebound outing on Saturday.

Deuce Benjamin and Sean De Kovachich also provided steady scoring for the Beavers, combining for double figures in both games. Minot State's presence on the boards was a defining factor in the season opener, as the team grabbed 46 rebounds and turned 16 offensive boards into 16 second-chance points. Defensively, the Beavers held Southeastern Oklahoma State to just 40 percent shooting and forced 13 turnovers, showcasing early-season toughness and cohesion.

Wednesday's matchup, Bismarck State College, provides Minot State with an opportunity to build momentum at home and continue establishing its identity on both ends of the floor.

The Beavers will then shift focus to Saturday's neutral-site showdown against Montana State University Billings in New Town. The Yellowjackets, traditionally disciplined and efficient, offer another strong Division II test as Minot State continues its non-conference slate.

This week's games give the Beavers valuable opportunities to grow early in the season, refine defensive communication, and continue developing depth—areas highlighted by head coach Randall Herbst throughout the opening weekend.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MSU Dome against Bismarck State College. Minot State then meets MSU Billings on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in New Town, North Dakota.
