MINOT, N.D. — The Minot State men's basketball team turns its focus to postseason play this week as the Beavers open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on the road at Minnesota Duluth.
Minot State enters the tournament with a 12-16 overall record and a 9-13 mark in NSIC play following a split final week of the regular season that included a dramatic road win at Jamestown before a Senior Night loss to Northern State.
The Beavers closed the regular-season road slate with an 85-84 comeback victory at Jamestown on Thursday. Deuce Benjamin delivered the game-winner with three seconds remaining to cap a rally from a 10-point halftime deficit. Seven Minot State players scored in double figures, led by Kiku Parker Jr. with 15 points and five assists, while Darik Dissette added 14 and Drew Kempel scored 11 off the bench. The Beavers were dominant from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 of 16 three-point attempts and shooting 62 percent from the field in the win.
Saturday's regular-season finale saw Minot State fall 76-62 to Northern State on Senior Night inside the MSU Dome. Benjamin led the Beavers with 18 points, while Dissette added 16 points and three steals. Minot State trimmed the deficit to three midway through the second half, but the Wolves pulled away late to secure the win.
The Beavers now begin NSIC Tournament play on Wednesday, February 25, traveling to face the University of Duluth in a first-round matchup scheduled for 6 p.m. as Minot State looks to extend its season into the conference quarterfinals.
