Bailey Wride turned in a busy month competing in indoor track and field, a month that found both bring home medals from the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend.
Their efforts in competition earned Tuhy the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Male Athlete of the Month honors for February, and Wride the Pinnacle Employee Benefits Minot State Female Athlete of the Month honors for February.
Pinnacle Employee Benefits became the title sponsor for Minot State's Athlete of the Month award during the 2021-22 academic year. The award recognizes the outstanding athletic achievements each month of one male and one female Beaver student-athlete.
Tuhy earned All-NSIC honors on Saturday at the NSIC Championships as he finished 2
nd in the men's 1,000 meters in a time of 2 minutes, 30.89 in the final.
Along with earning All-NSIC honors on Saturday, earlier in the month the senior from Hettinger, North Dakota, wrote his name into the Minot State history books as he broke the 25-year-old school record in the same event, clocking a time of 2:30.15 at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic on February 14, breaking the previous record of 2:30.58 run by Minot State Hall-of-Famer Brad Tighe in 2001.
As for Wride, she too won her medal Saturday in the 1,000 meters, finishing 4
th in the women's race with a season-best time of 2 minutes, 58.66 seconds.
Her performance Saturday at the NSIC Championships was one of three season-best efforts by the junior from Kalispell, Montana, in February as she ran a season-best time of 2:19.52 at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic on February 13 in the 800 meters, and clocked a season-best time in the mile of 5:08.26 at the Bison Open on February 6.
Tuhy, Wride, and the rest of the Minot State track and field student-athletes have the next few weeks off as they prepare for the outdoor season, which begins March 20-21 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
