Max Palmer, Emily Watts both in top 5 after golf season opener

HUDSON, Wis. – A new season got off to a great start for the Minot State golf teams and two of the Beavers' newest competitors on Monday on the road.

Junior Max Palmer fired a 1-over 72 and sits two shots out of the lead in the men's tournament at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl, while freshman Emily Watts carded a 6-over 77 and is 1 stroke off the lead on the women's side.

They led the way, respectively, for the Minot State men, who are tied for 7th at 25-over 309, and the Minot State women, who are 10th at 70-over 354.

The final round of the Beavers' first tournament of the fall is Tuesday at the Troy Burne Golf Club.

Watts, a true freshman from Toronto, Ontario, playing in her first collegiate tournament, had one birdie on the day and finds herself in a two-way tie in 3rd place, one shot behind co-leaders Addi Wood of Concordia-St. Paul and Molly Goc of Wayne State, who each shot 5-over 76s on Monday.
