LAKE CITY, Minn. - It was another successful trip to The Jewel Golf Club for Minot State's
Kasen Rostad, who led the way for the Minot State men at The Jewel Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul, which concluded Tuesday.
Back on the course where he shot his collegiate-low round of 69 last year, Rostad turned in rounds of 74 and 73 and finished tied for 12th at 3-over 147 for the Beavers.
His score was the top finish at the tournament for the Minot State men's team, which finished 7th at 32-over 608 (305-303).
On the ladies' side, a strong one-two effort from newcomers
Emily Watts and
Natalie Van Dort helped the Beavers finish 10th as a team at 105-over 681 (348-333).
Watts, a true freshman, led the way for the second week in a row for Minot State, finishing tied for 11th at 12-over 156 (81-75), while Van Dort, a senior transfer, was one shot behind her, tying for 16th at 13-over 157 (80-77).
"Top 10 finish for both teams in that field is a great accomplishment!" Minot State coach
Gary Brekhus said.
"Everyone played well, so I would have liked to see some of the scores today a little lower than they were, given the course and weather conditions were great, but I'm happy to see both teams are trending in the right direction!"
Backing up Rostad in the men's standings was
Porter Barnett, who followed up a career-best 4-over 76 on Monday with another 76 to finish tied for 367
th at 8-over 152.
Max Palmer, who led the Beavers in last week's opening tournament with a second-place finish, shot 9-over 153 (75-74) and tied for 41
st at The Jewel, while
Quinn Shillingstad tied for 48
th at 12-over 156 (78-78), and Cameron Schwb rounded out the Beavers' scores, tying for 62
nd at 20-over 164 (86-78).
On the women's side,
Carlie Brown was next behind Watts and Van Dort as she tied for 53
rd at 36-over 180 (88-92), then came
Micaela Resler, who tied for 63
rd at 45-over 189 (99-90), and rounding out the Beavers' scores was
Macie Sebelius, who was 65
th at 47-over 191 (100-91).
Minot State returns to the course a little closer to home next week, playing at the Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck for the Marauders Classic hosted by the University of Mary.
