MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University topped 100 points for the second time this season in a 100-38 win over Briercrest (Saskatchewan) College in nonconference NAIA women's basketball Wednesday at the MSU Dome.
The Beavers (20-6 overall) now head to South Dakota for the final two Dakota Athletic Conference games Friday (Black Hills State) and Saturday (South Dakota Mines). MSU was originally scheduled to play Brandon (Manitoba) University Monday, but BU had to cancel.
MSU opened the game on a quick 13-0 run and didn't look back, leading 51-18 at halftime. MSU outscored Briercrest 49-20 in the second half.
Minot State had all 11 players who saw action score at least three points, led by Caroline Folven (C, Jr., Byron, Ill.) and MacKenzie Mack (F, Jr., Scranton, N.D.) who scored 15 points apiece. Kallie Erickson (G, Jr., Fordville, N.D.) and Sacarra Molina (G, Fr., Hinsdale, Mont.) added 14 points each with Molina pulling down six rebounds and swiping three steals in 21 minutes off the bench.
“In practice this week, we found out part of the reason Sacarra wasn't looking for her shot and we settled that score,” said MSU head coach Sheila Green Gerding. “We told her we'd tell her when she is shooting too much. (Tonight) she came out and looked for her shot.”
Briercrest was led by Valerie Robinson's 12 points, while Michelle Niewenhuis and Brittany Leung added six apiece. The Clippers were held to just 26.3 percent shooting and turned the ball over 23 times.
Whitney Loftesnes (G., Jr., Velva, N.D.) just missed double figures with nine points. She added five rebounds and four assists to her totals. Dora Garza came off the bench to score eight points and Ari Hendrix (G, Sr., Ventura, Calif.) finished with eight assists, seven points and three steals in just 18 minutes.
