Cold shooting dooms Beavers

MSU's offense never gets on track

Minot State's Caroline Folven looks for an opening to drive during a game at Dickinson State.
DICKINSON, N.D. – It wasn't just cold outside at Scott Gymnasium.
Minot State University matched the below freezing temperatures outside with poor shooting inside as the Beavers dropped a 53-45 Dakota Athletic Conference game at Dickinson State Wednesday.
“We flat out got our butts kicked in every part of the game,” said MSU head coach Sheila Green Gerding.
The No. 16-ranked Beavers (12-4 overall, 3-2 DAC) fell behind late in the first half and never regained the lead.
Dickinson State (10-6, 3-2) was actually worse from the floor, hitting just 19 of 52 from the floor, but outscored the Beavers 21-12 on 3-pointers. Causing nearly all of the damage was Kelsey Boedeker as she hit 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and netted a game-high 31 points in the game.
Boedeker almost outscored MUSU in the first half as she had 12 compared to 16 for the Beavers. She did match MSU's field goal output, hitting five. The Beavers were just 5 of 17 from the floor in the first half.
With all of the Beavers problems shooting in the game, MSU had a chance to tie the game late. The Beavers went on a Katie Hardy-led (Fr., F, Fairview, Mont.) run as Hardy scored eight of her 11 points in a two minute span to cut the lead to 41-39.
But MSU's nemesis Boedeker drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key to push the lead back to a two possession game and the Beavers never threatened after.
“We made some mini runs at them, but never enough,” Green Gerding said.
Dickinson's Mandy Mullock also reached double figures with 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Amber Adams had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Blue Hawks.
MSU's Carly Boag (Fr., F, Tamworth, Australia) finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Caroline Folven (Sr., C, Byron, Ill.) added seven points – all on the first half – and three rebounds.
It won't get any easier for the Beavers as they travel to NCAA Division I University of North Dakota for an exhibition game Thursday at 6 p.m.
