MINOT, N.D. (Nov. 22, 2011) – Minot State University head wrestling coach
Robin Ersland announced Tuesday that Colin Ochs has signed an institutional letter of intent to wrestle for the Beavers in 2012-13.
Ochs, from Mohnton, Penn., is a two-time County and Sectional Champion for Governor Mifflin High School. He is currently ranked No. 9 at 120 pounds in Pennsylvania.
“We are very excited about adding someone with Colin's ability to our program,” Ersland said. “He was highly recommended by a former assistant coach of mine who is currently coaching in Pennsylvania. I was impressed with what people had to say about him and he was impressed with our school and current team members as well as the people he met from Minot during his visit.”
Ochs is 70-8 over the past two seasons and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania AAA state tournament last season. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
“Pennsylvania has arguably the best high school wrestling in the United States and Colin is one of the best in state,” Ersland said. “He is a solid student and will make a great addition to our team. We expect him to make an immediate impact.”
The Beavers are in the third year of a four-year transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II status. MSU is a NCAA Division II Provisional school who is competing as an independent in 2011-12 before moving to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2012-13.
